Monitors

BEWARE: The table or desk you put your monitors and laptop on needs to be able to stably support the weight of all of the equipment and you leaning on it. If it does not, please do not proceed.

UNBOX: If your monitor came in a box you will need to unbox the monitor and connect the stand using the guide provided in the box.

  1. Lay the first monitor on a flat surface, preferably on a towel, screen-side down.
  2. In your kit, you received one or multiple of the following combinations of cables. Grab one of the DisplayPort or HDMI cables. All the other cables are spares. You will not need them.
  • HDMI to HDMI
  • DisplayPort to DisplayPort
  • DisplayPort to HDMI

  1. The cable you selected only fits in one direction. Connect one end to the back of the monitor. For HDMI, you're going to push it in gently until it stops. For DisplayPort, push it in gently and you may hear or feel a click. STOP!!! If you ever need to remove the DisplayPort cable, make sure to pinch the black part of the wire connector down before pulling it out to avoid damaging the monitor.
  2. Connect the power cord to the back of the monitor. The power cable only fits in one direction and should be slid in until it stops naturally. NOTE: The power cord will be connected in a later step.
  3. Stand the monitor back up on your workspace. For the time being, leave the power and the video cable in front or draped over the monitor or the desk.
  4. Repeat this process on the second monitor.

Docking Station

UNBOX: Unbox the docking station if it came in a box. If it comes with HDMI or DisplayPort cables you will not need them.

  1. Connect the power adapter to the back of the docking station.
  2. Connect the power cord to the back of the power adapter. Make sure it is fully inserted.
  3. Put the docking station on your desk.
  4. Take the unconnected end of the video cable from the monitor and run it behind the monitor to the back of the docking station and connect it to the matching HDMI or DisplayPort
  5. Repeat this process with the second monitor. NOTE: at this point the docking station may have one of the following combinations connected for the monitors
  • HDMI & HDMI
  • DisplayPort & DisplayPort
  • DisplayPort & HDMI

Power

UNBOX: Unbox the power strip/surge protector. Do not connect it to the wall. If it has a power button on it turn it to the off position

  1. Connect the power from the monitors to the power strip.
  2. Connect the power from the docking station to the power strip.
  3. Make sure all plugs are fully inserted into the power strip.
  4. Connect the power cord of the power strip to the wall.
  5. Make sure the power cord is in a safe location and away from your feet.
  6. Turn the power button on the power strip back on. NOTE: Depending on the monitors, they may come on automatically at this point. This is normal.

Cable Management

This is a great moment to take time to organize and tie up your cables! Cable management improves safety by helping to prevent accidents, makes your work area more visually pleasing, and it helps you determine which cables go to which devices.

To manage your cables, you will need twisty ties, zip ties, Velcro straps, or any other form of cable tie. NOTE: if you use zip ties either do not cut the ends off or make sure you cut all the excess off to ensure the zip tie does not have a sharp end.

Run the cable to its destination. Give it a little bit of slack. Wrap the rest of the cable with your hand. Slid the cable off your hand, slide the cable tie of your choice around the cable, and tie it on. Make sure it's not too tight but tight enough that it doesn't fall off. If you would like to put a label on it, you can. If you have long cables running in the same direction, such as the cables from your monitor, bundle them together.  Keep the power cables separate from all other cables. While the likelihood the power cables for the computer will not cause interference, it's just good practice to avoid electrical interference.

For the power strip, surge protector, and power cords you do not want them anywhere near your feet. They are trip hazards!!! Depending on your workspace, you can put them under the desk, at the back of your desk, or on the floor. Make sure the location is somewhere safe for electrical devices to be placed.

Do you want other cable management ideals search the internet for “cable management home office” then check out one of the videos. Tip: Some of the cheapest and simplest solutions do the best job. Don't reinvent the wheel or buy the most expensive solution.

Keyboard & Mouse (Wired and USB/Wireless)

USB/Wireless

If you receive a wireless USB keyboard and mouse combo, connect the USB adapter to the front or top port of the back of the docking station. If your USB keyboard and mouse combo are still in the box, your USB adapter is on one side of the box when you open it. You may need to open both sides to find it.

Wired

If you received a wired keyboard and mouse or a mixture of wired and wireless connect the wire to the back of the docking station. Run the max amount of cable that you need and tie up the rest. Do not over tighten the cable.

Bluetooth

See following for help Windows & Macintosh

Laptop

  1. Connect the USB-C connection from the docking station to your laptop.
  2. Turn on and log in to the laptop.
  3. Depending on the settings of your laptop, one, none, or both monitors may display the laptop screen. This is normal. To change this, do one of the following.

Windows

  1. Select the Start button, then type settings. Select Settings > System > Display Multiple displays > Detect.
  2. Click on the Identify button to see the current layout of the monitors. A number will appear on the bottom left of the monitors to help identify the monitor.
  3. If you click Identify and the numbers on the screen do not match the order of the physical monitors, grab the picture of the monitor, and move it to the location that corresponds with the physical monitor and click Apply. It's okay if the numbers are not in order or line up. See example below. Your goal is to digitally arrange the monitors so that you can move the mouse from left to right or up and down smoothly across all the monitors. You do not need to physically move the monitors around.
  4. When you have them the way you would like, click Apply and exit the window.

Macintosh

  1. Click Apple followed by System Settings… and then search for OR type "Displays" in the left column.
  2. Click the Arrange button.

  3. You will see images of the monitors. Click on the monitor you want to move and drag it to the location that corresponds with the physical monitor.
  4. Click on Done when satisfied and exit the other windows.
